America’s Cup 2017, Bermuda Great Sound.

29/05/2017 – Bermuda (BDA) – 35th America’s Cup Bermuda 2017 – Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Qualifiers, Day 3

It’s take two in the Louis Vuitton Americas Cup Qualifiers Round Robin 2 with the rerun of yesterday’s (Wednesday May 31) four postponed races due to take place on the Great Sound today.
Mother Nature put paid to any race action yesterday, with winds over the Great Sound racecourse remaining below the minimum six knot limit that the America’s Cup Class (ACC) boats can compete in.
However, with winds predicted to reach the required 6-24 knot range needed to race today, action is set to return with SoftBank Team Japan, Groupama Team France, Land Rover BAR, Emirates Team New Zealand and ORACLE TEAM USA all set to feature.

BBC SPORT REPORTED Wednesday’s four races in the America’s Cup Qualifiers were postponed after organisers decided winds were too light to let sailing go ahead in Bermuda.

The races have been pushed back to Thursday, a scheduled day off.

Rules state that winds between six and 24 knots are required to race.

Ben Ainslie’s Land Rover BAR team will face both New Zealand and France on Thursday, while France will also race Japan, who will then go on to meet defending champions Team Oracle USA.

Team USA lead the standings with New Zealand in second place, ahead of Britain in third, Sweden, France and Japan.

It is the second time in this series that racing has been postponed. Wednesday’s event was halted as winds dropped below six knots, and the opening day’s racing was delayed because of gale-force winds.

There is no way to mitigate the disaster that this season has been for the McLaren-Honda Formula One team.

Now in the third year of the alliance, with Honda providing the power units, the opening months of this season have been deplorable. The team has yet to score a point after the first five races, and the list of technical issues has been embarrassing.

Since a revamp of the power unit over the winter, there have been electrical faults, water and oil leaks, and problems with horsepower. In the third race of the series, in Bahrain, the driver Stoffel Vandoorne failed to start because of a water pressure problem. In the next race, the team’s star driver, the two-time champion Fernando Alonso, also did not start because of a power unit failure.

And now the team is even allowing Alonso to miss the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday so he can race in the Indianapolis 500. Alonso will be driving the IndyCar version of a McLaren-Honda, run by Andretti Autosport.

Oracle and Team France line each other up in the starting box in Bermuda.

The 35th America’s Cup is officially under way.

After organisers were forced to postpone the opening day due to high winds on Saturday (NZ time), the battle for the Auld Mug finally kicked off on Bermuda’s Great Sound with defenders Oracle Team USA easing to a comfortable victory over Team France.

With Team New Zealand meeting both syndicates later in the day (Team France at 6.06am and Oracle at 7.05am NZT), they would have been eagerly watching on as the Americans flexed some early muscle.

While the French outfit are led by decorated skipper Franck Cammas, they are regarded as the weakest of the six teams and were always going to struggle against Jimmy Spithill’s finely-tuned outfit.

Still, it was an impressive display from Oracle, who used an adaptation of Team New Zealand’s cycling grinding platform to win by 2mins 11secs.

After the teams crossed the startline virtually neck and neck, Oracle quickly showed their class, extending their lead at each of the six legs and safely navigating the course to move on to the grudge match against the Kiwis in the fifth race of the day.

The second race of the day was a much tighter affair as the Swedish challenge of Artemis Racing pulled off a stunning fightback to edge Dean Barker’s Team Japan.

Havana’s popularity is growing all around the globe, as more and more artists and world-renowned professionals travel to Cuba’s capital city. This time, two Victoria’s Secret Angels visited the Caribbean nation for sassy and island-inspired photo-shoots that will feature in W Magazine’s September issue.

Brazilian Adriana Lima and Puerto Rican Joan Smalls enchanted the island with their exotic beauty and claimed to have a lot of fun working in this beautiful island setting.
With Old Havana’s cobblestone streets as a backdrop for various photos, the ‘angels’ wore stunning outfits and accessories from renowned designers, including Alexander McQueen, Missoni and Marchesa. Alasdair McLellan was in charge of shooting the girls’ photos which were then styled by Edward Enninful.

Wishing to reflect some of Cuba’s sass and charm, the girls posed in significant landmarks of the Cuban capital like the ‘Pabellon Cuba’ in Vedado’s 23rd street, as well as in random street corners of the old town for a spontaneous image.

It wasn’t, however, all work for these stunning models. Joan Smalls and Adriana Lima also took this chance to get to know a little bit about Cuban culture and interact with its people.

This year Claridge’s lobby is home to much more than a Christmas Tree. Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson, in collaboration with renowned British set designer Michael Howells, have created an immersive festive installation. Step through Claridge’s revolving doors this Christmas and you will find yourself in a magical, snow-covered forest.

Sir Jony Ive, Chief Design Officer at Apple, and Marc Newson, one of the world’s most influential industrial designers, are both long-time friends of the hotel.

“There are few things more pure and beautiful than nature, so that was our starting point, layering various iterations of organic forms with technology. Our aim was to create an all-enveloping magical experience that celebrates our enormous respect for tradition while recognising our excitement about the future and things to come.”
Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson

The installation features four-metre high light boxes that glow with black and white photographic images of snow covered silver birch trees, set on a pure white floor. Against this backdrop, rise cast models of Scots pine, layered with both natural and photographed silver birch and fir trees, reaching to a canopy of natural green pine.

The Claridge’s Christmas Tree has long symbolised the start of the festive season in the capital. drawing visitors and Londoners alike to admire its magnificent design. This is the seventh year that Claridge’s has invited a favourite guest to reinterpret the tree in their own distinctive style.
